JACLYN RAMKISSOON

I've always been creative. Countless piano lessons, art classes and supplies, and a few embarrassing musical productions filled my life growing up. What I didn't always know is how I wanted to apply those abilities in my adult life. I didn't discover journalism until college, but I realized it gave me the freedom to be creative while feeling as though I was serving a higher purpose.
I carried that creativity and purpose with me at Mercer University until graduation in 2018. During my time in undergrad, I jumped into a three-week service trip to Nepal as a photographer. The trip tested my creative boundaries and taught me how important it is to establish relationships out in the field.
Those long days on that trip prepared me for a full-time job in television news. I joined the digital team at 13WMAZ in Macon, Georgia right out of college. Sometimes the stories we covered were really horrific, but it taught me that hard work pays off and makes a difference in the community.
While practical skills like shooting and editing video and writing are things I want to continue to develop in the next step in my career, it's these little lessons that I hope to bring with me and hope to keep discovering.
